Fringe Braiding

Before I start, for any American readers of this blog let me clear something up – here in England, we call bangs a fringe.

I’ve had a fringe for just about as long as I can remember. I like it. You can hide behind it when you feel shy. It can be blunt, swept to the side, pulled back with a clip, or my new favourite style: braided.

Sometimes fringes are annoying, and they get in your eyes and irritate you when you’re working, or if it’s a windy day. Last week I decided to braid it along the side or my hair line to keep it out of the way and it looked cute. It’s quirky, but practical. I’ve have compliments on how pretty it looks.

Lauren Conrad is a big fan of this look too. Hers is a little more complicated, but its the same effect.

Gossip Girl

Hey Upper East Siders (and everyone else),

Word on the street is that Gossip Girl season two has been continuously freaking awesome. The impossibly beautiful cast have done a great job of wearing fabulous clothes, ignoring Taylor Momsen’s awful, awful hair and delivering first class soapy drama.

Honestly though, it’s Chuck and Blair (Bluck? Chair?) and their amazing chemistry that keeps us all watching. Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick continue to pull off emmy worthy performances each week leaving us asking, Dan and Serena who?

So thank you privileged Manhattan-ites for progressing when so many other shows fail and hit a sophomore slump. Gossip Girl is gripping, hilarious, emotional and awesome.

You know you love it,

xoxo

Gossip Girl season two started this month on ITV2 in the UK this week, and continues in the US on the CW. Catch up by buying season one here: Gossip Girl Season 1

Robert Pattinson in Twilight

Every Wednesday, my friend Katie and I go and see a shit film. It’s our tradition and we usually pick pretty bad ones; The Women, House Bunny, Mamma Mia... the list goes on.

So last week we saw Twilight. We’d seen the trailer and it looked awful. I hadn't read the books, but knew about the whole Twilight fandom phenomenon from Nicci and from being alive with access to the internet - its everywhere. I knew that Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter was the leading man. I also thought that he was pretty fugly. In fact Katie referred to him as ‘Guffy McGee’. See for yourself:

The movie started. It was bad. There was a lot of blue steel-esque stares and annoying twitchy acting from Kristen Stewert. Pattinson was fug.

Then something happened.

All of a sudden, Edward Cullen was hot. So hot in fact, that Katie and I were having trouble containing our giggly assertion that Robert Pattinson was the hottest thing we’d seen in quite some time. I have never wanted to be bitten by a vampire as much as I did while watching that movie. The build-up to their kiss was excruciating, the pay off, steamy.

My brother called me when the film was done and I couldn’t concentrate on talking to him. Katie and I told all our friends that they needed to see the movie, if only for the hotness. Let’s not kid ourselves, the movie is still bad (flame away Twilight lovers, I dare you).

I got home and ordered the first two books. They arrived yesterday and I’ve already finished Twilight and am halfway through New Moon. Nicci has already blogged about them, but I can confirm they are like crack. I Googled Pattinson and thankfully, he had returned to his fugly ways. Was it just the vampire thing I found so attractive? The forbidden quality of it all? Then he went and cut his hair.

Hot.

Uggs

Uggs.

A lot of ladies wear them, maybe gentlemen do as well, I don't know. People call them ugly. People call them cute. I heard on the radio the other day girls who wear them come across as high maintenance. However, a week and a half ago I became a part of the growing population of ladies who wear Uggs.

I actually tried to do research for this blog entry.

Yesterday, I was giving out hot chocolate to students as a part of SCSU's winter kickoff, and I tried to count the number of girls who we were wearing Uggs. I gave up at around five girls. There were plenty of girls wearing them, but after two minutes of counting I realized I wasn't really looking at their faces, just their feet. I couldn't really differentiate between them.

Today was the real test for the Uggs though. Today it was -25 degrees, which is pretty intense. The uggs kept my feet super, super warm. The rest of my body was freezing to no end, but my feet, in which upon I wore no socks, (as per the directions written on the card that came with my boots) was the warmest part. I actually gave no thought to my feet at all.

So, did I only buy them because they're popular? That's a tiny part.

Did I only buy them because famous people wear them? Maybe a little.

But, are they the best purchase of the winter? Oh my god, yes.

SnorgTees

There are approximately 402829 websites offering to sell you snarky, cute, pop-culture t-shirts, Snorgtees just happens to be one I ran across a while ago and felt compelled to purchase from.

Their designs are printed on American Apparel t-shirts which are good quality and wash well. The prices are great, even with international shipping costs added on. I brought three shirts and everyone has commented on how cute they are. This is the favourite:

So if you’re in the market for some kitch day wear, try http://www.snorgtees.com

Equus

I saw Equus on Broadway.

I didn't really know what to think of it. I did know I'd be seeing Harry Potter, or Daniel Radcliffe as he is called in real life naked, and I didn't know how I felt about that. I tend to be a bit immature about things like that, even at the ripe old age of 24. My best friend, Kouri, who so graciously bought the tickets, and I were rather close to the stage, and I did not know how that would bode in my favor. I am proud to say that I was very mature. I had not one outburst. I did pinch the hell out of Kouri's arm with Harry, I mean, Daniel came out on stage.

Harry, I mean, Daniel did a great job. I mean, he really scared the crap out of me. It was like Harry Potter was very angry for about three hours. But it wasn't all that annoying.

And I have no idea how to answer the question I'm sure you're asking yourself.

Dead and Gone

This is a TUNE! My use of capitals there should go some way in expressing just how awesome this song is.

Listen here: Dead and Gone

T.I rapped on Justin’s My Love back in 2006 and now Justin returns the favour by singing the hook on Dead and Gone, from T.I’s Paper Trail album. There’s almost too much hotness on the track, almost.
